Fundraising for British Red Cross

While taking part in the Clipper Race I intend to raise money for British Red Cross. After studying human rights at university, I've chosen to support this amazing charity because it tirelessly supports individual rights by providing impartial humanitarian and emergency support in crises in the UK and around the world, and has done for over 140 years, regardless of race, gender, political affiliation, religion, or class. In my local area alone the British Red Cross offers many crucial services, including:

  • Event first aid and ambulance support
  • Fire and emergency support
  • First aid courses
  • International family tracing
  • Mobility aids and support at home
  • Refugee support
  • Youth education

When I'm cold, wet, exhausted, and asking myself why on earth I decided to race 5000nm across the Atlantic in a 70ft yacht crammed in with 21 crewmates, it'll really push me on knowing that I'm helping making a difference. I have already raised over £1900 for the British Red Cross since 2015 by taking part in walking and hiking challenges, and I can't wait to take to the seas for this incredible charity and help raise funds and awareness of the work that they do.

My aim is to raise a total of £2500 for this amazing cause by the end of the race in 2018. Here's an idea of how much good that could do in the UK and across the world:

  • £5 could provide 4 people with clean drinking water
  • £20 could buy a first aid kit for UK Emergency Response teams
  • £45 could give an Afghan mechanic the tools they need to maintain community wells in Afghanistan
  • £150 could help give 11 families the means to grow their own nutritious crops and ensure a healthy diet in a country like Lesotho
  • £500 could provide food and drink for 100 vulnerable people displaced by an emergency such as flooding

Every penny will make a difference, so please consider offering your support - even just £1 will help make someone's life better.
